Interim U.S. coach Sarachan to remain in charge through January camp

Dave Sarachan will remain as caretaker manager for the U.S. men's national team during its annual January training camp, and will be in charge for the match against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Jan. 28, the U.S. Soccer Federation announced on Wednesday.

The USSF added that the team would be comprised of about 30 players, mostly from MLS. They will convene in Carson, Calif. starting on Jan. 10.

Sarachan will be supported by the rest of the holdovers from the staff of predecessor Bruce Arena, including Pat Noonan, Richie Williams and Kenny Arena, the son of the former manager. Sarachan took over on a caretaker basis following Arena's resignation in the wake of the U.S. team's failure to qualify for the 2018 World Cup. He was in charge for the U.S. team's 1-1 draw against Portugal last month.

How long Sarachan's tenure will continue remains uncertain. The election for the new USSF president will take place on Feb. 10, at which point the search for permanent manager is expected to begin in earnest. It's possible that Sarachan could remain in charge through the next FIFA fixture period in late March.
