Julian Green left 'strong impression' in latest U.S. call-up - Jurgen Klinsmann

Jurgen Klinsmann said Julian Green left a "strong impression" on the U.S. national team coaches in camp and at a pair of friendlies over the last 10 days.

Green, 21, has been somewhat of an outsider with the national team since making his debut at the 2014 World Cup and scoring against Belgium in the round of 16.

And the Bayern Munich player helped his case for future inclusion in the team after scoring a goal in each of the last two matches -- on Friday against Cuba and again on Tuesday night versus New Zealand.

Following the match, Klinsmann told a news conference: "Julian Green is back in the picture. He scored another nice goal today but overall he's becoming more mature, he's becoming stronger, he's far more confident. It's really nice to see his development.

"I think for Julian its just a maturing process. He's still very, very young. I think he learned a lot under Pep Guardiola and he learns a lot under [Carlo] Ancelotti. They're very, very good coaches and it's his job to be a sponge and learn from them."

Green started consecutive matches for the U.S. for the first time in his career and Klinsmann believes if he can continue to be in consideration for his club, it speaks volumes about his growth and potential down the road.

"He wants to break into that team. He wants to get minutes there and he has people like [Franck] Ribery and [Arjen] Robben in front of him. But the way he presented himself these 10 days from the first training session on, where we said 'ooh.'

"He made a big step forward. I think it just becomes more personality. When you deal with [players] that age you have to give them their up and downs and just hope that they mature one day at a time."

Next up for Klinsmann and the U.S. is the start of the Hexagonal round of World Cup qualifying, with a Nov. 11 date against Mexico kicking off the final stretch on the road to Russia 2018.

Asked of Green's inclusion in the team in November, Klinsmann said: "[It's] difficult to say. Maybe we send some people to watch his training sessions, just to spend a few days there and see how active and involved he is there as well.

"I know everybody in that club. A lot also depends on how we come to a conclusion on what system we want to play against Mexico. But he left a very strong impression these 10 days."
