Christian Pulisic made his first start for the United States in Tuesday night's game against Trinidad and Tobago.
Pulisic, who turns 18 later this month, broke Jozy Altidore's U.S. record of 18 years, 339 days, as the youngest player to start in a World Cup qualifier.
After scoring twice as a substitute in last week's win over St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Pulisic was rewarded with his first start in his eighth overall appearance for Jurgen Klinsmann's team.
Klinsmann made six changes to the lineup from the win at St. Vincent, including the planned switch at goalkeeper as Tim Howard takes his turn over Brad Guzan.
In defense, Steve Birnbaum and Omar Gonzalez replace Matt Besler, who left the team after the birth of his daughter, and the suspended DeAndre Yedlin.
The in-form Sacha Kljestan makes his first start in a World Cup qualifier since October 2013.
The U.S. will reach the final round of CONCACAF qualifying if they avoid a big defeat and Guatemala doesn't overcome a 12-goal differential.
