Ex-United States international Charlie Davies diagnosed with cancer

Former United States international forward Charlie Davies has been diagnosed with cancer.

The 30-year-old New England Revolution player told FOX Sports on Saturday he was diagnosed "a few months ago."

The Revolution confirmed the diagnosis in an issued statement on the club's website, adding that Davies is now in remission.

"Today, New England Revolution forward Charlie Davies shared that earlier this spring he was diagnosed and treated for liposarcoma and that he is now in remission," the statement read.

"It was important for Charlie to concentrate on his family and treatment during the past few weeks and the club honored his wish for privacy.

"The New England Revolution will continue to support him through full recovery and are looking forward to seeing him back out on the pitch."

This is not the first hardship Davies has endured in his career. The former Sochaux man was sidelined for nearly 18 months following a fatal car crash in which he suffered multiple broken bones and serious internal injuries.

A former U.S. under-20 international, Davies has made 17 senior appearances for the United States since his debut in 2007, scoring four goals.
