Dortmund's U.S. international Pulisic delighted with 'incredible' year

United States international Christian Pulisic has told German newspaper Ruhr Nachrichten that he is astounded by his own quick development at club and country level.

Pulisic debuted for Borussia Dortmund in January 2016, aged 17 years and 134 days old, and went on to make 12 appearances in the Bundesliga and Europa League under Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel in the last campaign.

His club performances caught the eye of U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann, who handed him a debut in March 2016 in a World Cup qualifier against Guatemala and then picked the youngster in the men's national team squad for this summer's Copa America Centenario.

"It was incredible,"Pulisic said about his time with the USMNT. "My family and friends were there and watched me play -- an unforgettable experience.

"It was a great feeling for me to play in front of so many of my fellow countrymen."

The attacking midfielder bagged his first goal for Dortmund against Hamburg in April, making him the youngest player to score two goals in Germany's top flight, and is aware of the growing attention around his career.

"The fact that I'm still very young caught the attention of many people," Pulisic said. "I am obviously aware of that. They put their hopes in me, but I also have high expectations. I'm not letting that get to my head or get carried away.

"I think that's normal when a young player suddenly plays for the national team. I simply want to stay focused."

Pulisic made three appearances for the USA as they reached the semifinals of the Copa America, and the midfielder believes that manager Klinsmann has been an integral part in developing the national team into a major player at international level.

"Klinsmann is doing a fine job in my opinion," Pulisic said. "He completely rebuilt the team in recent years."

Borussia Dortmund have tied Pulisic down to a full two-year contract this summer as the player heads into his first full year as a senior professional.

"What happened in the last seven months is completely crazy, but it makes me insanely proud" he said.

"Overall I'm very happy with my displays. I had to make great strides. But my teammates and coaches have supported me well and made it easy for me. Everyone had my back In Dortmund as well as in the national team.

"I have gained a lot of confidence and feel ready for the next season."
