U.S. under-23s defeat Qatar in friendly before Olympic qualifying

The United States under-23 squad defeated Qatar 2-0 on Tuesday in their final friendly before Olympic qualifying begins.

Substitute Benji Joya drew a foul in the box in the second half and scored the resulting penalty to give the U.S. the lead in Manchester, England.

Gboly Ariyibi's volley from the top of the 18-yard box made the lead comfortable as the U.S. controlled possession.

CONCACAF Olympic qualifying begins Oct. 1 as the U.S. face Canada, followed by group games against Cuba and Panama.
