Last month, I wrote about the current state of American goalkeeping, giving a run-down on the position over the last couple of decades and how the current pipeline stacks up. Zack Steffen, one of the youngest goalkeepers mentioned in the article, was being touted as the possible next big-time U.S. keeper. And following a string of excellent performances at the recent FIFA Under-20 World Cup in New Zealand, the 20-year-old's stock is rising.
The University of Maryland standout who back in December turned down MLS advances to sign with then-Bundesliga club FC Freiburg (Freiburg have since been relegated) had quite a bit of buzz heading into the World Cup.
