Clint Dempsey pulls out of U.S. friendlies with hamstring injury

Clint Dempsey will miss both of the United States' upcoming friendlies with a hamstring injury, U.S. Soccer announced on Tuesday.

The Seattle Sounders forward injured his right hamstring in training on Monday and will be sidelined for 2-3 weeks.

The injury will prevent him from playing against Denmark on Wednesday (3 p.m. ET, ESPN/WatchESPN) or March 31 against Switzerland.

Dempsey left the U.S. camp in Zurich and returned to Seattle on Tuesday.

The U.S. will not add a player to replace Dempsey on the squad, which also features forwards Jozy Altidore, Aron Johannsson and Rubio Rubin.

The roster, announced Sunday, includes two first-time call-ups for players with Mexican clubs: Leon goalkeeper William Yarbrough and Club America defender Ventura Alvarado.

U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann omitted defenders Matt Besler, Geoff Cameron and Omar Gonzalez, and could not select Jermaine Jones, who is hurt.

The revised roster:

Goalkeepers: Cody Cropper (Southampton, England), Nick Rimando (Salt Lake), William Yarbrough (Leon, Mexico)

Defenders: Ventura Alvarado (Club America, Mexico), John Brooks (Hertha Berlin, Germany), Timmy Chandler (Eintracht Frankfurt, Germany), Greg Garza (Tijuana, Mexico), Michael Orozco (Puebla, Mexico), Tim Ream (Bolton, England), Brek Shea (Orlando), DeAndre Yedlin (Tottenham, England)

Midfielders: Alejandro Bedoya (Nantes, France), Michael Bradley (Toronto), Julian Green (Hamburg, Germany), Miguel Ibarra (Minnesota), Fabian Johnson (Borussia Moenchengladbach, Germany), Alfredo Morales (Ingolstadt, Germany), Danny Williams (Reading, England), Gyasi Zardes (Los Angeles)

Forwards: Jozy Altidore (Toronto), Aron Johannsson (AZ Alkmaar, Netherlands), Rubio Rubin (Utrecht, Netherlands).
