U.S. star Julian Green loaned from Bayern to Hamburg, father confirms

Bayern Munich has agreed to loan U.S. international Julian Green to Hamburg SV for the the 2014-15 Bundesliga season, Green's father, Jerry, has confirmed to ESPNFC.com.

Sky Sport News was the first to report that the deal is done, though German newspaper Bild has indicated Hamburg and Bayern are still negotiating the loan fee.

Reached by telephone, Jerry Green said "Julian is going [to Hamburg] as far as we know."

He also confirmed the loan is "strictly a one-year loan and then back to Bayern type of deal," adding that when the possibility of a loan arrangement seemed likely, he contacted U.S. national team manager Jurgen Klinsmann, who was fully in favor of the move.

During Bayern's tour of the U.S. earlier this summer, Green said he preferred to spend the season with the Bavarian club, with manager Pep Guardiola stating he would wait until the end of August to determine what he felt was best for the 19-year-old.

Given that Green is behind the likes of Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery, Thomas Mueller, Xherdan Shaqiri and World Cup hero Mario Goetze at Bayern, it now it appears Guardiola has decided that finding minutes elsewhere is the best course of action in terms of Green's development.

"[Klinsmann] is very high on Hamburg," Jerry Green said. "He knows the coach. He knows the people there. It's a great opportunity for Julian to play some games. He thinks this is going to be a good thing for Julian and the U.S. team."

Julian Green made one senior team appearance for Bayern last year, when he appeared at the tail end of a UEFA Champions League match against CSKA Moscow. He has made three appearances for the U.S. team and scored the Americans' goal in their 2-1 round of 16 defeat to Belgium at the 2014 World Cup.

Hamburg narrowly avoided relegation the past season, defeating SpVgg Greuther Furth in a relegation playoff on away goals. Die Rothosen have secured one point from two league matches so far in the current campaign.
