Mykhailo Fomenko to 'think' about future as Ukraine coach after Euro exit

Mykhailo Fomenko did not immediately resign as Ukraine coach following their final game at Euro 2016 as he earlier said he would.

Ukraine had already been eliminated following their second game, and hours before Tuesday's 1-0 defeat to Poland, the coach told Ukrainian TV he could see no point in continuing.

But following the game, Fomenko said he was not in a rush to quit his post.

"When you work with a national team and don't get a positive result you have to think about things," he said. "Only then can I answer your question about my future."

Ukraine kept the game close against Poland and had a few chances to equalise, and Fomenko said he was not disappointed with his team's performance.

"I don't have any complaints about my players today because we played football," he said. "I hope they use this experience.

"If they work hard on the pitch they will eventually take their chances in front of goal."

UEFA named Ukraine's Ruslan Rotan the man of the match in a losing effort.

"I'm very pleased with the award and I tried to give my maximum, but most of all I wanted the team to win," Rotan said. "We were eliminated after two games and wanted to save some face, but unfortunately we weren't able to achieve that.

"The result was negative. There are a bunch of reasons for this. We could talk about the atmosphere in the team, but I can only say that it was positive -- the players found common ground and had a good time together.

"The biggest thing, that we need to work on is our psychological level. Maybe we don't have the right mentality."
