Wonderkid Okello delighted with maiden Uganda call-up

Wonderkid Allan Okello is delighted to have been handed his maiden international call-up after being invited to join the Uganda squad ahead of the Cranes' Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Lesotho.

Sebastien Desabre's side currently lead Group L on four points, and will host Lesotho on October 16 before traveling to Maseru for the return leg three days later.

Okello's call-up comes after a series of instrumental displays for KCCA FC during their recent continental campaigns, helping the domestic heavyweights reach the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup last year and the Champions League this term.

"I am very excited about this call-up because it proves that I am on the right path," Okello told KweséESPN. "This is very encouraging and it motivates me to continue working hard in my football path."

Okello's KCCA teammate Julius Poloto has also been handed a maiden call-up, although foreign-based players Yunus Sentamu (FK Tirana, Albania), William Luwagga Kizito (BATE Borisov, Belarus) and Moses Opondo (Vendsyssel, Denmark) have been overlooked.

Milton Karisa, who scored on his debut for Morocco's Mouloudia Club at the weekend, also returns to the fold.

Defender Murushid Juuko, who is suspended for the October 13 game after accumulating two yellow cards, has also been invited.

"The local-based players will start training on October 5 and the [others] will join after three days," Uganda FA spokesman Ahmed Hussein told KweséESPN.
