KCCA FC have renewed energy and belief heading into the final stretch of the Ugandan title race after defeating African giants Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League, according to head coach Mike Mutebi.
The Super League heavyweights defeated eight-time champions Ahly 2-0 in Africa's premier club competition on Tuesday to secure arguably the finest result by any Ugandan side in continental competition.
Mutebi hopes that the momentum from that triumph can help them overhaul Vipers SC to retain their domestic title.
"There's renewed energy since we beat Al Ahly, and my boys are hungry to win every remaining game in the last stretch of the Super League," Mutebi told KweséESPN.
"Of course, leaders Vipers have the advantage because they are two points ahead of us with each of having two games remaining."
Vipers currently lead the table with 59 points, while KCC are second on 57 having beaten Bright Stars FC 2-1 at the weekend.
The defending champions host ninth-placed Bidco FC on Tuesday, while Vipers host relegation-threatened Express FC at St Mary's Stadium, Kitende.
"We want to win our two remaining games," Mutebi continued. "I've always said that the league championship will be decided on the final day of the season.
"After defeating Bright Stars, it is now clear that the final two games will decide the championship winner, and we still have a slight chance of retaining the title."
KCCA FC skipper Timothy Awany has also urged his teammates to keep the pressure on the league leaders as the campaign reaches its conclusion.
" We have to win to keep pressure on Vipers," he said a press conference on Monday. "We shall go all out to get three points.
"At this stage where we are making history we need to keep winning every game."
Mutebi's team face Police FC on the final day of the season on May 25, while Miguel Da Costa's Vipers face army side UPDF FC.
"We know what we need to do and there is no room for error now," Da Costa told KweséESPN. "Facing Express FC, who are fighting to stay in the league, will be a very hard game.
"However, my players know what I expect of them."
Sports Club Villa, Uganda's most decorated team with 13 league titles, led the table for much of the campaign but have dropped to third after a late slump.
On Monday, they settled for a goalless draw against struggling Proline FC and are on 55 points with just one more match to play.
"We have failed with the league," Villa coach Wasswa Bbosa told KweséESPN, "but we need to concentrate and win the Uganda Cup since we are at the semi-final stage."
