SC Villa, Vipers SC coaches suspended for four matches

The Uganda Football Association's Competitions Disciplinary Panel has handed four-match suspensions to the head coaches of two of the league's biggest clubs, Wasswa Bbosa of Sports Club Villa and Vipers Sports Club's Miguel Jorge Da Costa.

SC Villa currently lead the Uganda Premier League log with 49 points, while Vipers are second with 46 points, but with a game in hand.

In a communique signed by the chairman of the panel, Deo Mutabazi, both coaches have been accused of confronting and attacking referees.

Da Costa's suspension is as a result of an incident in Vipers' match against Bidco FC on April 11 at the Kakindu Stadium, while Bbosa's misdemeanour came a week prior during a league game against Soana FC.

"Mr. Jorge Da Costa, the coach of Vipers SC, is suspended for four competition matches for unsporting behaviour towards a match official as per Article 30.8 (ii) of the FUFA competition rules 2017/18 for violating article 30.2 of FUFA competitions rules 2017/18," the statement read.

"[Based] on the referee and match assessor's reports, Coach Wasswa Bbosa abused, threatened and attacked the match officials during and after the match," the statement added.

"How can the same officials who mishandled the match be the same people making these reports," Bbosa complained to KweséESPN. "They can do whatever they want. I will sit out."

Vipers SC goalkeeper James Alitho was also suspended for four competition matches for insulting and abusing a match assistant, while club CEO Peter Lwanga has been fined $280 for confronting and attacking the referee.

Abdul Wasike, the Vipers SC spokesman has said that they will not appeal the decision.

"We think the suspension, especially on the goalkeeper Alitho is harsh because our first goalkeeper has just recovered from injury and has featured in one match and yet we have several matches to play," Wasike told KweséESPN.

The same panel also fined Express FC $280 for reportedly hiding match balls during a league match against Mbarara City FC on April 11 at their Wankulukuku Stadium.
