Desabre demands attacking improvement from Uganda

Uganda head coach Sebastian Desabre has said his players must improve in the final third after Tuesday's goalless draw with Malawi.

The Cranes have struggled to find the net since the Frenchman took over at the end of December, scoring one in three at the African Nations Championship.

They did net three times in a 3-1 victory over lowly Sao Tome e Principe - 179th in the world - last week, but were again impotent against Malawi on Tuesday.

"Although we create many scoring chances, we still need to improve in the final third," Desabre told journalists at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

"The objective of these two international friendly games was to win and also assess how the players express themselves," he added "We have achieved [almost all] of the target."

Junior Yunus Sentamu, Emmanuel Okwi and Bevis Kristofer Mugabi all had chances to break the deadlock against the Flames, but were denied during a frustrating encounter.

"I will now work hard to convince the federation to have another friendly match in May so that I can have the chance to assess more players."

Despite the draw with Malawi, the new coach believes that he's learned a lot about his new charged during the international window.

"I have managed to identify the strong and weak points of the team and we shall keep getting better step by step," he concluded.

Yeovil Town's Mugabi took his place in a resolute defensive unit alongside Murushid Juuko, Denis Iguma and Godfrey Walusimbi as the 22-year-old made an encouraging start to life as an international.

"I am glad that I have been given the opportunity to play two games for Uganda," Mugabi told KweséESPN. "It is a good feeling to play for the national team."

Uganda are set to meet Tanzania in an African Cup of Nations qualifier on September 7.
