Uganda head coach Sebastien Desabre has revealed his delight after his won his first match with the Cranes as they dispatched Sao Tome e Principe 3-1 in a friendly in Saturday in Kampala.
Joseph Ochaya and Murushid Juuko put Uganda 2-0 up before the break, while Abraham Ndugwa came off the bench to add a third.
Sao Tome struggled to settle after arriving in Uganda less than 20 hours before the match, but they pulled a goal back through Jose Varela in stoppage time.
"I am happy that we achieved the first objective which was to win in front of our fans," Desabre told journalists. "It's also a good feeling because I had the chance to watch my senior players in action for the first time.
"It was a good performance by the Cranes, and we shall keep working on getting better and better," he added. "There are so many things that I identified about the players I was seeing in action for the first time.
"This gives me a good view on what to do."
This was Desabre's first win with the national side after Uganda lost two and drew one at the African Nations Championship in Morocco.
The French coach handed a debut to Yeovil Town's Kizito Mugabi, who started the fixture.
"It felt so nice playing in Kampala," he told KweséESPN. "The clapping from the fans when I was getting replaced in the second half was a nice feeling."
Next up for Uganda are Malawi, with the two sides set to clash in Kampala as the Cranes look to refine their approach ahead of September's resumption of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
