Uganda's Isaac Muleme on the brink of Egypt move

Uganda defender Issac Muleme is in Egypt to finalise his move to Premier League side Al Assiouty Sports Club, KCCA FC Chairman Aggrey Ashaba has confirmed to KweséESPN.

The left-back recently returned to Uganda after participating in the Cranes' underwhelming campaign at the African Nations Championship, and despite interest from European-based agents, appears primed to move to the Egyptian top flight.

"We have this afternoon received payment from Al Assiouty Sports Club for the remaining months of Muleme's contract with us," Ashaba confirmed on Tuesday. "We are now, together with the FA, working on his International Transfer Certificate that will be issued.

"Muleme told us he did not want to play for KCCA FC again and wanted to join Al Assiouty Sports Club because there was a deal on the table," Ashaba added. "We let the player travel to Egypt and agreed that the club that wants to buy him pay for the remaining months of his contract with us."

Inside sources disclosed to KweséESPN that KCCA were paid in the region of $10,000 to $15,000, while Muleme would pocket a sign-on fee of $30,000 when he is officially registered before the close of the transfer window on Wednesday.

Muleme was one of eight KCCA players who made Uganda's squad for the ongoing CHAN, with striker Derrick Nsibambi also targeted by Al Assiouty earlier in the window.

When KweséESPN spoke to Nsibambi, the scorer of Uganda's only goal at the CHAN, the hitman acknowledged regret that the deal had fallen through.

"We could not agreed to what Al Assiouty Sports Club was offering," Ashaba confirmed. "We think Nsibambi will get a better deal elsewhere."

Should his deal go through, Muleme will join Cranes international teammate Hassan Wasswa in the Egyptian top flight, with the latter having joined Talaea El-Geish SC in September.
