Italy, Poland, Portugal will compete to host UEFA Nations League final

Italy, Poland and Portugal are set to compete for the right to host the finals of the new UEFA Nations League.

European football's governing body announced the three countries had all "expressed interest'' in staging the June 2019 semifinals and final of the inaugural competition.

And as group rivals, they will settle the issue on the field, providing there are no logistical issues.

A statement on uefa.com explained: "The finals will in principle be hosted by one of the group winners from League A.

"As Italy, Poland and Portugal form Group A3, and providing that all three associations submit bids which meet UEFA's requirements, the winner of that section is in line to be appointed to be the host by the UEFA Executive Committee in December 2018.

"The finals will be held in two stadiums with a net seating capacity of at least 30,000, ideally located in the same host city or [within] approximately 150km.''

The Nations League kicks off in September to replace most international friendlies. All 55 UEFA member teams play in one of four tiers through November.
