Police arrest four fans connected to violence before Lyon-CSKA game

French police have arrested four hooligans allegedly involved in trouble ahead of Lyon's UEFA Europa League tie with CSKA Moscow three weeks ago.

Three of the four admitted to throwing projectiles at police before the game at Lyon's Groupama Stadium on March 15 and the fourth is suspected of assaulting a police officer who had fallen to the ground during incidents that left 13 police officers injured.

All four are due to appear in court on Thursday.

Three men were arrested on the night of the game with one of them being sentenced to 18 months in prison and being given a three-year stadium ban.

Lyon are facing a potential exclusion from European competition with UEFA set to investigate the incidents.

The Ligue 1 club had been given a suspended two-year ban after their fans caused trouble during last season's Europa League quarterfinal with Besiktas.
