UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Atalanta following allegations of racist abuse toward Borussia Dortmund's Michy Batshuayi in the second leg of the teams' Europa League round-of-32 clash last week.
Batshuayi, the Dortmund striker on loan from Chelsea, wrote on Twitter after the 1-1 draw on Feb. 22 that Atalanta supporters at Reggio Emilia's Mapei Stadium directed monkey chants toward him during the game.
The charges levied by UEFA cite Article 14 of the organisation's Disciplinary Regulations, which cover racism and other discriminatory conduct and propaganda.
Atalanta had last month received a one-game stand closure, which was suspended for one year, when Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly was racially abused by supporters during a Serie A game.
UEFA also charged both teams when fans set off fireworks and threw objects on the pitch.
Dortmund, who advanced to face Lokomotiv Moscow in the round of 16, had been previously fined €15,000 by UEFA when supporters ignited fireworks during a Champions League group-stage game at Apoel Nicosia in Cyprus.
The organisation's disciplinary commission will conclude its investigations and issue its sanctions on March 22.
