Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic will escape a retrospective ban despite grabbing Fenerbahce defender Simon Kjaer's throat, a source has told ESPN FC.
Ibrahimovic came off the bench in the 30th minute during United's 2-1 defeat away against Fenerbahce on Thursday and was involved in an altercation with Kjaer soon afterwards.
Referee Milorad Mazic missed the incident, but a source said UEFA does not expect to act because the fourth official was next to the players and chose not to take action.
Despite the unsavoury nature of the incident, UEFA would only review footage if it had not been seen by the match officials.
The confrontation was sparked when, with United trailing 1-0 following Moussa Sow's second-minute goal, Ibrahimovic caught the Denmark international with a late challenge, leading to a confrontation.
The 35-year-old was jeered by the crowd when he touched the ball for the remainder of the game.
When asked about the altercation after the game, the Swede had tried to play down the incident, saying on his official app that it was "nothing special."
Kjaer told Swedish Channel 9 after the match: "I actually didn't hear what he said but I do know that he wasn't happy. But that's the way I know him from the pitch.
"He is the kind of chest-puffing player, who is arrogant. That is his way of playing. My way of playing is to mark him as tightly as possible and to give him as little space as possible, because he is a good player.
"It is a part of football and I don't take it too seriously. It is not the first time I play against him and I know how he reacts. It is not a problem. It is, like I said, a part of the game."
