Francesco Totti set for 100th European appearance for Roma

Francesco Totti will make his 100th appearance in European club competition on Thursday night after Roma coach Luciano Spalletti confirmed he will play against Austria Vienna.

Totti, 40, sat on the bench for the Giallorossi's last two league games against Inter Milan and Napoli, but Spalletti says he needs him to fire them towards the knockout stages of the Europa League on Thursday, as he reaches one if not two milestones.

"With me on the bench, Francesco has scored 99 goals so he can bring up a century with one more," Spalletti said at his prematch news conference. "This is something I desperately want him to do.

"It would be hugely satisfying. And tomorrow is going to be his 100th game in Europe so he's going to play because he can make a big contribution for us."

A win would distance the Giallorossi from their fellow top-spot incumbents by three points and Spalletti is confident of another performance -- and result -- like the one at Napoli in the league last weekend.

"They're not an easy side to face, but we absolutely need to find another win," the Roma coach said. "I'm convinced we will deliver a good performance -- I've seen the right attitude in my players."

Roma have won their last two Serie A fixtures and are unbeaten in the Europa League this season. A win at the Stadio Olimpico would keep the momentum going for Sunday evening's clash with Palermo at the Olimpico.
