Manchester United get Liverpool in Europa League round-of-16 draw

Manchester United have been drawn against Premier League rivals Liverpool in the Europa League round of 16.

The first leg will be played at Anfield before Louis van Gaal's United host Jurgen Klopp's men at Old Trafford.

Elsewhere, Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham Hotspur, who are second in England's top flight, will take on Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.

Sevilla, who have won the competition in the last two seasons, face Swiss outfit FC Basel, while Gary Neville's Valencia are in action against La Liga counterparts Athletic Bilbao.

A brace from Marcus Rashford helped United to a 5-1 second leg victory over Midtjylland on Thursday evening, while a James Milner penalty was all that could separate Liverpool and German club Augsburg over two legs.

United have won all four meetings with Liverpool since Van Gaal took over from David Moyes, including last month's 1-0 victory at Anfield -- which was Klopp's first taste of the fixture.

The two teams have never before met in a European competition.

Spurs comfortably dispatched Serie A high-flyers Fiorentina on Thursday, with goals from Erik Lamela, Ryan Mason and a Gonzalo Rodriguez own goal sealing a 3-0 victory at White Hart Lane, while Thomas Tuchel's Dortmund booked their place in the last-16 with a comfortable 3-0 aggregate win over Porto.

The tie will pits current second-place in the Premier League against second-place in the Bundesliga but, while Spurs are level on points with Arsenal and just two shy of leaders Leicester, Dortmund are marooned eight points behind Bayern Munich and 15 clear of Hertha BSC.

The German club have a fine history in Europe but have never won the Europa League (or UEFA Cup, as the competition was known before the 2009-10 season).

Spurs won the UEFA Cup in both 1972 and 1984.

Round of 16. Ties to be played March 10 and 17:

The final is at St. Jakob-Park stadium, Basel, in Switzerland on May 18.
