Liverpool, Tottenham advance with wins in Europa League; Dortmund lose

Christian Benteke and Liverpool rallied to defeat Bordeaux 2-1 at Anfield and advance to the knockout stage of the Europa League on Thursday.

The French side took the lead through Henri Saivet's goal in the 33rd minute after Simon Mignolet was whistled for holding the ball too long and the referee awarded an indirect free kick in the box.

But Liverpool were back level five minutes later when Benteke drew a foul in the penalty area and James Milner converted from the spot.

The hosts went ahead when Benteke received the ball at the top of the box and had room to turn and fire a strong shot into the net with the last kick of the first half.

Also In Group B, Rubin Kazan took advantage of a Birama Ndoye red card to defeat Sion 2-0.

Blagoy Georgiev and Blagoy Georgiev scored in the second half to keep Kazan's hopes of advancing alive.

Harry Kane scored the winning goal as Tottenham won 1-0 at Qarabag to secure a spot in the knockout stage as well.

Spurs had applied pressure all game and hit the woodwork more than once before Kane finally headed home in the 78th minute.

Tottenham remain top of Group J after Monaco fell 2-0 at home to Anderlecht.

Guillaume Gillet scored the opening goal with a powerful shot from the top of the box in first-half stoppage time while Frank Acheampong wrapped up the points with a late second.
