UEFA opens disciplinary case against Dnipro for fans' behaviour

UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Ukrainian team Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk for racist behavior by their fans and several other offences during their Europa League semifinal against Napoli on Thursday.

Dnipro's fans celebrated after the club defeated Napoli 1-0 in Kiev to reach their first European final.

UEFA says Dnipro are also being charged after their supporters set off fireworks, invaded the pitch after the game and were engaged in crowd disturbances.

In another charge, UEFA says there was "insufficient organisation" inside the stadium because stairways were blocked.

The charge of racist behavior could refer to a banner that had a symbol used by the Azov Battalion, a fighting unit involved in the conflict in eastern Ukraine and with links to far-right groups.

The cases will be dealt with on May 21. The final in May 27.
