Sevilla midfielder Vitolo sets Europa League record for fastest goal

Sevilla midfielder Vitolo set a new UEFA Europa League record for the fastest goal when he netted after 13.21 seconds against Villarreal on Thursday.

The ball was punted upfield straight from kickoff at El Madrigal with Kevin Gameiro controlling it and placing it at the feet of Vitolo to apply the finish.

AEK Athens' Ismael Blanco had previously held the record with a goal in the inaugural UEFA Europa League season.

However, neither were quicker than Roy Makaay's UEFA Champions League record. The Dutchman's goal for Bayern Munich against Real Madrid in in the 2006-07 round of 16 second leg came after just 10.12 seconds.
