Daniel Sturridge gets start for Liverpool, Roberto Firmino on bench

Daniel Sturridge started Liverpool's Champions League group stage opener against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday in place of striker Roberto Firmino, who took to the bench due to a eye injury.

Firmino suffered the injury in Liverpool's win over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday when he was poked in the eye by defender Jan Vertongen.

It is Sturridge's first start for the club in a Champions League match. The former Chelsea man will help lead the attack at Anfield alongside Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

Jordan Henderson started for Jurgen Klopp's side in place of Naby Keita, who also dropped to the bench. The Liverpool captain will be joined by James Milner and Georginio Wijnaldum in midfield.

The Reds' defence remained unchanged from Saturday with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Virgil Van Dijk and Andrew Robertson in front of Alisson in goal.
