Adrien Rabiot confident PSG will get over thrashing at Barcelona

Adrien Rabiot believes Paris Saint-Germain will get over their Champions League exit at Barcelona and one day go on to win the competition.

Unai Emery's men were thumped 6-1 away at Barcelona in the second leg of their round-of-16 clash after winning the first leg 4-0, completing an improbable 6-5 aggregate comeback for Luis Enrique's men -- who scored three times after the 88th minute.

"We were frustrated," Rabiot told TF1's "Telefoot" show. "If we had played the same way we did in the first leg, we would have advanced.

"Everything happened for Barcelona. The referee helped too. We have top class players who are mentally strong. We have taken it very badly but it will serve us well in future.

"The project? At a European level, it has stagnated a little. We must persevere and build. The club and the project remain young. The players must remain confident and invested in the project."

Despite this latest setback, the first time in five attempts that PSG have failed to reach the Champions League quarterfinals, Rabiot still believes that they will one day win the competition.

"The Champions League? Of course it is feasible," the 21-year-old said. "If PSG win the Champions League, it would create a strong image. I do not know when but I do know it will happen."

PSG are currently three points behind Monaco at the top of Ligue 1, but Rabiot is not giving up hope of pipping Leonardo Jardim's men to the title.

"As it has been in previous seasons, it is an objective of ours," he added. "This is not only because we were knocked out of the Champions League.

"Whatever happens, it was a target of ours. I always hoped we will win the title. Monaco are capable of making mistakes, so we must keep the faith."
