Real Madrid held in thriller at Warsaw, Tottenham beaten, Leicester draw

Real Madrid needed a goal from Mateo Kovacic to rescue a 3-3 Champions League draw at Legia Warsaw, despite being two goals up inside 35 minutes.

A brilliant goal by Gareth Bale gave Real a dream start in Poland, the Wales captain hammering in a magnificent volley from outside the area with only a minute on the clock -- the club's fastest-ever Champions League goal.

They soon made it two with another fine strike, Bale laying the ball off to Benzema, who smacked home a low shot from inside the area.

But Legia pulled one back when Vadis Odjija tiptoed past a couple of challenges before sending an unstoppable finish high into the corner, and they levelled early in the second half when Miroslav Radovic poked a low shot through the dive of Keylor Nevas after 58 minutes.

With seven minutes to go, they were stunned when Thibault Moulin blasted home from the edge of the box -- but Madrid rescued themselves when Mateo Kovacic fired in after yet another high-quality move and almost won it when a last-minute Lucas Vazquez effort crashed back off the bar.

Borussia Dortmund overtook Real Madrid at the top of Group F and went through to the knockout stages, with an early goal enough to see off Sporting Lisbon 1-0.

After surviving some early pressure from the visitors, Dortmund went in front when a neat buildup saw Julian Weigl and Mario Gotze combine before Matthias Ginter's cross was headed home by Colombia international Adrian Ramos.

But Thomas Tuchel's team -- who dropped striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from the squad for "internal reasons" -- could not create the second goal that would have settled the issue and Sporting increased the pressure as the game went on, with Bryan Ruiz coming close to a late equaliser.

Tottenham suffered another miserable Champions League night at Wembley as Bayer Leverkusen inflicted their second defeat at their adopted European home, winning 1-0.

They were twice badly caught out trying to play the ball from the back in the first half, and were fortunate that Kyle Walker's loss of possession did not result in a goal, with Javier Hernandez firing just wide of the post.

Spurs' most dangerous moment of the opening 45 minutes came when Christian Eriksen's well-hit shot went straight at visiting goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

Eriksen went close early in the second period before Hernandez was in the thick of the action again when his effort was saved by Hugo Lloris. But the Bundesliga side found the moment that counted when the ball broke to Kevin Kampl, who slotted home from close range.

Monaco added to the pressure on Tottenham in Group E, stretching their lead at the top thanks to a commanding 3-0 win at home to CSKA Moscow in which Radamel Falcao was the star.

They made a bright start and were rewarded after 13 minutes when Valere Germain profited from a poorly defended free kick to stab home a close-range finish.

They doubled that advantage before the half-hour mark when Falcao, left all alone at the far post, slid in to steer the ball home. And two became three when Falcao turned brilliantly inside the area after a neat move before producing another emphatic finish.

Leicester's 100 percent Group G record came to an end with a 0-0 draw at FC Copenhagen -- but they were indebted to Kasper Schmeichel.

A high-tempo start saw both teams taking an attacking approach, and it was the home side that went closest when Ankersen had an effort blocked with Leicester's Danny Drinkwater seeing a shot deflected wide soon afterwards.

Copenhagen spent much of the half on the front foot, but Claudio Ranieri's Premier League champions stepped up their attacking intent after the break, with Riyad Mahrez freeing Danny Drinkwater for a shot and Ahmed Musa seeing an attempt blocked.

Back came the home side and, when a low cross came in from the left the ball was hacked away from almost on the goalline amid chaos in the six-yard box, and Schmeichel earned Leicester a point when his fine diving stop repelled an Andreas Cornelius header.

Porto kept their Group G hopes alive with a 1-0 victory at home to Brugge.

Andre Silva gave Porto the upper hand on 37 minutes when his flicked header from a corner deflected off defender Thomas Pina and looped in.

And that proved to be enough for the points as Brugge, despite a determined performance, failed to find an equaliser and went out of the tournament.

Juventus were made to rue a bad miss from Gonzalo Higuain as they were held to a 1-1 Group H home draw by Lyon.

Juve went in front when Higuain calmly converted a penalty after 13 minutes after Stefano Sturaro was shoved to the floor by Mouctar Diakhaby.

Higuain, left all alone, blasted over the bar when he should have made it 2-0 before the break -- and Lyon capitalised late in the game when Corentin Tolisso got the last touch to an inviting ball in from Rachid Ghezzal to level for the Ligue 1 outfit.

Sevilla are second behind Juventus in Group H after thrashing Dinamo Zagreb 4-0.

After a spell of increasing pressure that had seen Steven N'Zonzi have a flicked header tipped onto the bar, Luciano Vietto, on loan from Atletico Madrid, turned his defender and fired in a powerful shot that beat the goalkeeper at his near post.

Petar Stojanovic was sent off for a second booking on the verge of half-time, leaving Zagreb with a mountain to climb, and they conceded again after 67 minutes when Sergio Escudero surged forward from defence and provided a fine low finish. N'Zonzi and Wissam Ben Yedder added further gloss.
