UEFA considering changing Champions League kick-off times

UEFA is discussing new Champions League kick-off times as part of a revamp of its biggest club competition, European football's governing body has confirmed to kicker.

Last week, it was announced that from 2018-19 Europe's top four leagues will have four guaranteed places in the Champions League group stage. A number of other changes were also announced by the governing body, including the way in which clubs are paid.

The changes were made after tough negotiations between UEFA and the continent's top clubs, who reportedly threatened to boycott the Champions League and set up a breakaway European super league if their demands were not met.

On Tuesday, UEFA confirmed to kicker that more changes could be made to the Champions League format from 2018-2019 onwards, with new kick-off times currently being discussed.

Earlier that day, Sport Bild reported that instead of the 20.45 CET kick-off time, matches will instead begin at 19.00 CET and 21.00 CET.

Although UEFA did not comment on its exact plans, it did say that a change of kick-off times is being discussed but nothing has yet been decided.

Meanwhile, FAZ has reported that FIFA president Gianni Infantino plans to install a new format for the FIFA Club World Cup, which currently features seven clubs. Sepp Blatter successor's wants to increase the number of teams to either 16 or 32.
