The New Saints advance to Champions League second qualifying round

The New Saints progressed to the second qualifying round of the Champions League with a comfortable 3-0 away win over San Marino's Tre Penne that sealed a 5-1 aggregate triumph.

The Welsh side took a 1-0 lead on the night in Serravalle seconds before the break when Scott Quigley smashed in from close range.

That was added to two minutes into the second half by Aeron Edwards' header and then a slotted finish from substitute Greg Draper in stoppage time.

The New Saints will face Cypriot side APOEL in the next round.

Elsewhere in the first round on Tuesday, Malta champions Valletta advanced on away goals despite losing the second leg 2-1 at B36 Torshavn in the Faroe Islands.

Torshavn erased their 1-0 deficit from the first leg when Hanus Thorleifsson scored on 11 minutes, but Federico Falcone scored the crucial away goal 14 minutes later.

Hannes Agnarsson scored in the second half for the hosts, but they could not find a third goal and crashed out 2-2 on aggregate.

Armenian champions Alashkert eased by Santa Coloma 3-0 after a goalless first leg in Andorra.

Vahagn Minasyan put Alashkert ahead early and despite losing Mihran Manasyan to a red card in the 26th minute they would not concede.

Nando was sent off for the visitors on the hour mark, which led to late goals from Norayr Gyozalyan and Artur Yedigaryan, and Santa Coloma finished with nine men as Cristian Martínez was also dismissed in stoppage time.

Valletta advance to face Serbia's Red Star Belgrade, while Alashkert were drawn against Georgia's Dinamo Tbilisi.

The first round concludes on Wednesday as Estonia's Flora Tallinn try to preserve their 2-1 aggregate lead over Gibraltar's Lincoln Red Imps.
