Atletico Madrid won't take PSV lightly, says director Clemente Villaverde

Football general director Clemente Villaverde insists Atletico Madrid will not take PSV Eindhoven lightly in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Atletico, runners-up to rivals Real Madrid in 2013-14, avoided the big names in Monday's draw and were paired with a PSV side making their first last-16 appearance since 2006-07.

"They're a great team. They have a great tradition in Europe. They will surely make things very difficult for us to go to the next round," Villaverde told Atletico's website.

PSV proved their European credentials by qualifying from a group including Wolfsburg, Manchester United and CSKA Moscow.

And sporting director Jose Luis Perez Caminero was quick to identify their strengths following the draw in Nyon.

He said: "It's a purely offensive, attacking team, with many players from the ranks, very young and with top technical quality.

"The Uruguayan [Gaston] Pereiro has further strengthened a very compact team."
