Sergio Aguero is Man City's Messi or Ronaldo - Juventus' Gianluigi Buffon

Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon says Sergio Aguero is Manchester City's version of Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.

Buffon feels that Aguero, who is set to lead the City attack in the Champions League group game at Juve on Wednesday, has the ability to determine high-pressure European games.

The 27-year-old made a scoring return to Manuel Pellegrini's team in the 4-1 loss against Liverpool on Saturday after missing seven matches with a hamstring injury.

Pellegrini has bracketed Aguero alongside Barcelona's record scorer Messi and reigning World Player of the Year Ronaldo before and, while City have never reached the last eight of the competition before, Buffon feels he has the talent to take his team forward.

Buffon was quoted in the Daily Mirror as saying: "When you get to the knockout stages, the best teams look to their standout player for a moment of brilliance.

"So many times we have seen Messi do it for Barcelona or Ronaldo do it for Real Madrid. Aguero can be that player for Manchester City.

"One player cannot win you the Champions League, but special players win you games, and winning games wins you competitions. Sergio Aguero is that special player for them."

Juventus beat City 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium in September, but Pellegrini's team have already ensured qualification and will win the group if they triumph in Italy.
