David De Gea, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo miss Man United's Club Brugge trip

David De Gea, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Antonio Valencia were notable absentees from the Manchester United squad as Louis van Gaal named an 18-man party for their Champions League qualifier against Club Brugge.

United won the first leg 3-1 and will go into Wednesday's return fixture again without De Gea, who has not featured in any of their first four games this season.

Van Gaal has omitted the Real Madrid target because of concerns about his state of mind and has said that the goalkeeper will not be involved while the transfer window remains open.

Sergio Romero, who has only conceded one goal so far, is set to retain his place with Sam Johnstone as his deputy as Victor Valdes was not even included in the 28-man group United registered with UEFA for the tie.

Jones is yet to appear this season after suffering from mild thrombosis but, although the defender is back in training, is not expected to play before the game against Liverpool on Sept. 12.

Centre-backs Rojo and Jonny Evans are other notable absentees.

Rojo has not appeared after missing the preseason tour of the United States because of passport issues and is not fully match fit, and Evans, who has not been on the bench so far, is a player United are willing to sell.

Sources have told ESPN FC that West Bromwich Albion are interested in the Northern Ireland international.

Valencia came on as a substitute in Saturday's 0-0 draw against Newcastle and United are yet to confirm if the Ecuadorian is injured.

The only player who was not in the matchday 18 at the weekend who is going to Belgium is Marouane Fellaini, who has been suspended for United's first three Premier League games but came off the bench to score United's third goal against Brugge last Tuesday.

Youngsters James Wilson and Tyler Blackett are others who were not chosen to travel.

Full Squad: Sergio Romero, Sam Johnstone; Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian, Paddy McNair, Luke Shaw, Chris Smalling; Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini, Ander Herrera, Juan Mata, Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Ashley Young; Memphis Depay, Javier Hernandez, Adnan Januzaj, Wayne Rooney.
