Memphis Depay helped spare Manchester United's blushes as his first goals for the club inspired them to come from behind to defeat Club Brugge 3-1 in their Champions League playoff first leg.
United, playing their first game in the competition since April 2014, were stunned inside eight minutes at Old Trafford as Michael Carrick deflected a Victor Vazquez free kick past Sergio Romero and into his own net.
They roared back just five minutes later, though, as Depay flicked the ball past one defender, before darting inside the area and picking out the bottom corner with a fine finish to net his first United goal.
And the Netherlands international, a summer signing from PSV Eindhoven, scored a delightful second before the break, this time cutting inside and then bending an effort into the far corner.
United pushed for a third in the second half and eventually found it through Marouane Fellaini, who headed home Depay's delivery from out wide deep into stoppage time.
