Barcelona vs. Bayern Munich a 'special game' - Luis Enrique

Barcelona coach Luis Enrique has said that former Blaugrana boss Josep Guardiola bringing his Bayern Munich team to the Camp Nou will be a "marvellous occasion."

Barca host Bayern in the Champions League semifinal first leg on Wednesday, May 6, with the return game at Bayern's Allianz Arena the following Tuesday, May 12.

The draw brings Guardiola back to the Camp Nou where he was a hero for over a decade as a player, and then won a fantastic 14 trophies in just four seasons as coach.

Barca have won just one of eight past Champions League games against Bayern, and were hammered 7-0 when the teams met at this stage of the competition two years ago.

Asked at a news conference for his reaction to the draw, Luis Enrique said it would be a memorable game between two sides whose aim was to go on and win the competition.

"It is a special game because Pep is there, for me, and for the players," Luis Enrique said. "It means a marvellous occasion for all Barca fans. When there is a draw like this, I always think that it's bad luck that the team who have to play against Barca. There is always someone on the other side thinking that. I this case it is different, are they are two clubs with the same aspirations."

Luis Enrique said that his former Spain and Barca teammate Guardiola remained the best coach in football at the moment.

"Pep is the best because he has won a lot of trophies, for his way of playing attractive football, for how he settles in other countries and because he is my friend," he said. "My friends are always the best."

Asked if he would have preferred to face Bayern in the final, or to be able to play the second leg of the semi-final at home, Luis Enrique said such things were impossible to know in advance.

"You never know what is best," he said. "Football allows for lots of surprises. You cannot know. I do not mind if we play the first leg at home or away. We will go out to win the game at home and away. The set-up is the same."

The former Madrid and Barca midfielder spent much of the news conference trying in vain to direct reporters questioning towards Saturday afternoon's domestic game at Catalan capital neighbours Espanyol.

"I have lost five minutes watching the draw, and now I am only interested in the three games beforehand," Luis Enrique said. "For me the only thing that exists is Espanyol tomorrow. It is a derby, with all that brings with it. Their ground is hostile territory for us, which is good at this stage of the season."

UEFA's drug testers had been at Barca's training ground earlier on Friday, where 10 players including Messi underwent blood and urine controls.

All Barca's first-team regulars took a full part in the morning session, including Xavi Hernandez who had sat out the previous day's work.

With just six rounds of fixtures remaining, Barca go into the weekend with a two-point advantage over second-placed Real Madrid, who have a tricky game at Celta Vigo on Sunday evening.

Luis Enrique said he expected the La Liga title race to right to the end, and was happy that his side were heading down the final stretch in good shape both mentally and physically.

"I believe the will be very close right until the end," he said. "Everything is on the line in every game. The mental state will be important, and I see the players very focused. Having no injuries is down to the work of the medical staff, the players looking after themselves well, and some luck too."

Meanwhile, Barca vice-president Jordi Mestre, representing the Liga club at the Champions League semifinal draw, said: "Of course we know Pep Guardiola very well, he knows us well, Luis Enrique and Pep know each other very well, it is another attractive element.

"Pep is a coach who has given us a lot, a great coach, and great Barcelonista. His presence at the Camp Nou will be another attraction. It is a 50-50 game, we will have to play very well, it is a very balanced tie."
