Jardim explains Wenger handshake snub (1:18)

Leonardo Jardim insists his side deserved to advance from the Uefa Champions League round of 16 tie with Arsenal. (1:18)

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has accused Monaco counterpart Leonardo Jardim of lying after he claimed he had refused to shake hands following their recent Champions League clash at the Emirates Stadium.

Jardim told media after last week's round-of-16 second leg, which Monaco lost 2-0 as they went through on away goals after a 3-3 aggregate draw -- that Wenger had snubbed him following Monaco's 3-1 first-leg triumph.

Speaking to L'Equipe, Wenger said TV pictures proved that he had wanted to speak to Jardim after the full-time whistle in north London.

"The images show that I waited for the Monaco coach to congratulate him after the match," he said.

"He celebrated the win with his staff, which I fully understood. I then congratulated him after the press conference.

"So I am surprised and disappointed to hear such lies. That said, I wish all the best and good luck to Monaco for what is to come."

Monaco face Juventus in the quarterfinals, with the first leg in Turin on April 14 and the return fixture in the principality eight days later.
