Marco Streller: Basel have nothing to lose, pressure is on Porto in UCL tie

Marco Streller does not plan to play his final Champions League match at Porto on Tuesday evening as Basel head to Portugal needing a positive result to reach the quarterfinals.

Streller, 33, scored the only goal of the night when Basel beat Liverpool early in the group stage of this year's competition.

That home win coupled with the 1-1 draw at Anfield in the final round of Group B games ended Brendan Rodgers' hopes of progressing to the round of 16, where Basel now take on Porto.

Three weeks ago, Basel only managed a 1-1 draw at home to the Portuguese side. But Streller, who announced last week that he will retire from football at the end of the season, does not want to end his European career in Portugal.

"We have nothing to lose. The pressure is on Porto," the former Switzerland international, who currently has 72 games in Europe and has scored 24 goals in all UEFA competitions, told his pregame news conference.

Streller added: "We came here to reach the quarterfinal."

Basel's Portuguese coach Paulo Sousa knows that the match at the Estadio do Dragao will not be easy for his side, saying: "We need to be stable at the back, and more focused than in the first leg. Then we'll get our chance."

Porto have not suffered defeat in eight consecutive European home games, and Swiss paper Neue Zurcher Zeitung believes Sousa will play most of the so-called "Liverpool team" -- the XI that took a point from Anfield in December.
