Eden Hazard was fouled 9 times against PSG, says Jose Mourinho

Chelsea's Eden Hazard was fouled nine times in Tuesday's first leg against PSG, claimed manager Jose Mourinho, who again called for greater protection for his star playmaker following a 1-1 draw.

Mourinho revealed after the game that Hazard was one of five Chelsea men to enter the game with an injury, and the Belgian was continually scythed down by PSG.

The Blues boss has time and again spoken of opponents targeting Hazard, who last week signed a five-and-a-half year contract extension, and repeated his plea.

"If he's another player he dives, stays on the floor, rolls in the grass, screams. He's asking for cards and cards and cards," Mourinho said of Hazard.

"This kid is pure. Today there were nine fouls. In the Premier League it's no different. For example at Stoke, which was an unbelievable situation, and this is what happened game after game."

Asked how Hazard should be protected, Mourinho said: "Give cards to the opponents, follow the rules of the game. It's as simple as that."

Hazard last season appeared to welcome overtures from PSG, who scarcely hid their admiration for the Belgium forward despite their own glittering array of attacking talent which was in full evidence in the second half.

Mourinho also admitted that PSG were closer to pusher for a winner as Chelsea were on the back foot at the conclusion.

"They were losing, they put pressure on us, they were aggressive, recovering the ball quickly and playing very direct.

"The second half was their half. 1-1 reflects one half for Chelsea, one half for Paris. But if you go to chances created and goalkeeper performances, you have to be honest and say they have more than us.

"If someone was closer to winning the game it was Paris, not Chelsea."

Thibaut Courtois, restored ahead of Petr Cech, made a number of fine saves, particularly to deny Cavani in the first half and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in stoppage time.

"If football was nine outfield players plus two goalkeepers we would give no chance to anyone," Mourinho said. "We would be absolutely phenomenal, because they are both phenomenal."
