Liverpool denied late by Ludogorets, Arsenal beat Dortmund to progress

Liverpool's hopes of reaching the Champions League knockout phase are still alive despite drawing 2-2 at Ludogorets, while Arsenal secured their passage after a 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund.

The Reds' 2-2 draw in Bulgaria sees Brendan Rodgers' Liverpool on four points in Group B, two short of second-placed FC Basel who lost 1-0 against Real Madrid, ahead of their meeting with the Swiss side at Anfield on Dec. 9.

Ludogorets went ahead in the third minute as Dani Abalo capitalised on poor handling from goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, but the Reds needed just five minutes to level when Rickie Lambert headed in following hesitation in the hosts' defence.

The comeback was complete in the 37th minute, with Jordan Henderson lifting the ball over shot-stopper Vladislav Stojanov from a tight angle following a low cross by Raheem Sterling.

However, Ludogorets grabbed an equaliser with two minutes left of normal time as Georgi Terziev headed in from close range after Svetoslav Dyakov flicked on a corner.

Also in Group B, Real Madrid ensured they will go through to the Champions League knockout stage as group winners after a 1-0 win over Basel.

Cristiano Ronaldo was on target in the clash at St Jakob-Park with his first-half strike his 71st in the Champions League, taking him level with Los Blancos legend Raul.

Elsewhere, Arsenal are through to the round of 16 following an impressive 2-0 win over Dortmund, who they could yet leapfrog defending on results in the final round of fixtures in Group D.

Yaya Sanogo broke the deadlock after just 73 seconds, receiving Santi Cazorla's reverse pass in what Dortmund felt was an offside position before sliding the ball under goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller.

In the second half, after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had cracked the woodwork, Alexis Sanchez netted his 13th goal for Arsenal, cutting onto his right foot before curling an effort into the far corner.

Anderlecht picked up their first win in the Champions League group stage with 2-0 victory over 10-man Galatasaray, but still exited the competition after Arsenal beat Borussia Dortmund.

Anderlecht came into the match third in Group D, one point better off than their opponents, and although Chancel Mbemba bagged a brace in a 2-0 win, it was not enough to keep them in the competition.

Victory at least ensured they will finish third and grab a Europa League spot.

Mario Mandzukic's hat trick in a 4-0 win over Olympiakos saw Atletico Madrid qualify in emphatic style for the Champions League round of 16.

A dominant first half saw Atletico 2-0 up thanks to Raul Garcia's shambolic opener and Mandzukic's goal shortly before half-time.

Two second-half headers from Mandzukic led to a 4-0 scoreline which was no less than the Spaniards deserved and left them needing only a draw with Juventus in two weeks' time to top the group.

Juventus ended their away day blues to reignite their chances of progressing from Group A of the Champions League with a 2-0 win over Malmo.

Defeats on the road against Atletico Madrid and Olympiakos had left Juve in third place prior to kick off, but second-half goals from Fernando Llorente and Carlos Tevez gave the Italians a crucial win.

Juve move up to second place, three points behind Atletico and three clear of Olympiakos going into the final round of fixtures, while Malmo are left to fight for a Europa League place.

Zenit St Petersburg captain Danny threw Andre Villas-Boas' side a Champions League lifeline as his goal earned them a patchy 1-0 victory over Benfica.

Hosts Zenit became embroiled in a nervy Petrovski Stadium encounter with their Portuguese rivals, with both sides at risk of early elimination in Group C.

Former Porto striker Hulk laid on the perfect ball for Portugal midfielder Danny to blast the winner and dump compatriots Benfica out of the Champions League.

Lucas Ocampos' tap-in guided Monaco to a 1-0 victory at Bayer Leverkusen to ensure Group C is wide open.

The Argentine winger latched onto Nabil Dirar's cross to cap a fine counter-attack that allowed Monaco to frustrate the hosts, who dominated territory and possession.

Leverkusen could have sealed top spot and their first-ever seeding for the Champions League round of 16 with victory over their stuttering French visitors.
