Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng broke Manchester City hearts at the death as a superb late strike put his former club to the sword in dramatic fashion at the Alllianz Arena.

City had beaten Bayern away from home last season in their final group game and they looked to have denied the Bavarians again with a pragmatic display that frustrated Pep Guardiola's side.
Bayern had the better of the chances but found Joe Hart in good form, the England goalkeeper saving from Mario Gotze, Thomas Muller, Rafinha, Boateng and David Alaba. City had a couple of chances of their own, as Bacary Sagna and David Silva failed to convert headed opportunities.
But it was a familiar face who popped up in the 90th minute, Boateng smashing home a shot from the edge of the box to hand Bayern what may prove to be a vital 1-0 win in Group E.
