ANKARA, Turkey -- The president of Turkish club Genclerbirligi has denied accusations that his team's goalkeeper purposely gave away a decisive goal in a league game against Galatasaray.
The claim could implicate Galatasaray, who lead second-place Fenerbahce by three points with two matches remaining. Fenerbahce were barred by UEFA from three seasons of European competitions in a 2011 match-fixing scandal.
Genclerbirligi president Ilhan Cavcav says goalkeeper Ferhat Kaplan "could have reached out better" to stop Galatasaray playmaker Wesley Sneijder's goal in a 1-0 loss on Saturday.
Howeever, Cavcav has told HaberTurk newspaper in comments published on Monday that Kaplan "is an honest goalkeeper and has character."
Television pictures appeared to show Kaplan keeping his hand away from the path of Sneijder's shot in the second half.
