Hoffenheim to make Julian Nagelsmann, 28, manager next season

Julian Nagelsmann will be the youngest coach in the Bundesliga at 28 when he succeeds Huub Stevens at Hoffenheim next season.

On Monday, Stevens replaced Markus Gisdol, who was fired after Hoffenheim dropped to second-to-last place. Stevens signed a contract until the end of the season.

Hoffenheim said on Tuesday that Nagelsmann will get a contract until 2019.

"Despite our difficult situation at the moment, it's important to set down a marker for the future," the club's CEO Peter Gorlich said in a statement, adding that his appointment "shows that we're planning for the long term and staying true to our philosophy to bring through talent from our youth department."

Nagelsmann is now coach of the club's youth side, which won the under-19 national title last year. He is still studying for his coaching diploma.

"For many reasons, we're convinced that Julian is a perfect fit," director of football Alexander Rosen said. "He has shown through his work with the achtzehn99 academy that he's one of the biggest coaching talents in the area."

Stevens was also introduced to the media on Tuesday.
