Tottenham's Danny Rose apologises for his 'ill-judged' comments

Danny Rose has been fined two weeks' wages, sources have told ESPN FC, and apologised to Tottenham after his criticism of the club's wage structure, ambition and transfer strategy.

On Thursday, the England international -- who signed a five-year deal worth around £65,000-a-week in September -- complained that he was underpaid and urged Tottenham to sign some big-name players, rather than "ones you have to Google."

The 27-year-old added that he was open to offers from other clubs, and said he would definitely play for a side in the north of England before retiring, given he hails from Yorkshire.

Sources said Rose has been fined two weeks' wages by Tottenham, while he has apologised to manager Mauricio Pochettino, chairman Daniel Levy and his teammates, who face Newcastle in their Premier League opener at St James' Park on Sunday.

"Have had time to consider my actions, I acknowledge now that the timing and manner of what I said was ill-judged," Rose's statement, issued by his agency, read.

"My words were not meant to offend and for that I would like to apologise to the chairman, manager, my teammates and the fans."

Rose, who has not been fit since January, is not expected to return until September and has been linked with a move to Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United.

Tottenham are the only club in England's top four leagues yet to make a summer signing and they sold right-back Kyle Walker to City for £45 million with a further £5m in add-ons last month.
