Tottenham's Mauricio Pochettino eyes title finale for White Hart Lane

LONDON - Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has said winning the title in the club's final season at White Hart Lane would be "the most important" moment in their 135-year history.

Spurs plan to play at Wembley Stadium next season while their old ground is demolished and a new £750 million stadium is completed on an adjacent site.

They are one of two Premier League clubs unbeaten at home this season, and the final two visitors to their home since 1899 will be top six rivals Arsenal and Manchester United.

Six wins in a row have propelled Spurs into second place and title contention, and the idea of saying goodbye to the Lane as champions for the first time since 1961 has Pochettino dreaming.

"It would be amazing, the most important thing in Tottenham's history," he told a prematch news conference ahead of Saturday's match at Manchester City.

"This season we can feel, in every game, how our fans feel excited to spend time at White Hart Lane.

"You can imagine how tough it will be in a few months when White Hart Lane does not exist and we move to play at Wembley. It will be very tough for our fans, for the people who love Tottenham."

Spurs have won nine of their 11 home matches, dropping points only in 1-1 draws with Liverpool and Leicester City.

They have conceded the fewest home goals -- five -- with only Chelsea and Liverpool having scored more on their own grounds.

On Friday, Spurs unveiled more details of their new 61,000-seater stadium, which will be the biggest club ground in London and, the club has predicted, one of the most impressive in the world.

But Pochettino said Spurs would never forget their current home and believes playing there for the final season is providing more motivation for his players.

"It is an extra energy that we feel. The way we are playing this season at White Hart Lane, you can see that we are warriors -- that you defend your home, your house," he said.

"The connection and the feeling and the energy that we get in every game is amazing. White Hart Lane will always be present in our minds, in our hearts and in our history."
