Eric Dier signs new five-year Tottenham Hotspur contract

Eric Dier has signed a new contract at Tottenham Hotspur committing him to the club until 2021.

Dier, 22, previously signed a new five-year deal almost exactly a year ago, but his latest contract brings him in line with Spurs' highest earners with a wage reportedly in the region of £70,000 a week.

The England international joined Tottenham from Sporting Lisbon in summer 2014 and he has established himself as one the most important players for club and country after being converted from a defender into a holding midfielder by manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Dier has attracted admiring glances from some of Europe's biggest clubs after he was one of the few players to emerge from England's Euro 2016 debacle with any credit, and Bayern Munich boss Carlo Ancelotti described him as one of the best players at the tournament.

"There are many reasons I wanted to commit my future to Tottenham," Dier told the club's official website. "We have a fantastic squad full of young, exciting players. We've got the new stadium on its way, the fantastic facilities at the training ground, and a fantastic manager who's great for all us young players.

"He really looks after us, and makes sure we keep improving.

Tottenham host Monaco on Wednesday at Wembley Stadium in their first Champions League fixture for five years. Dier is expected to retain his place and continue his long-term midfield partnership for club and country with Dele Alli after Saturday's 4-0 Premier League win at Stoke.

"Wembley being filled with 80,000 or more Tottenham fans is going to be an amazing experience," Dier added. "Playing in the Champions League there is very unique, so those two things are going to be fantastic."

After Christian Eriksen agreed a new four-year deal last week, Pochettino said he expected more players to follow the Dane by committing to the club and Kyle Walker is expected to be the next player to sign, as Spurs look to tie down their stars.

Erik Lamela, Jan Vertonghen and Harry Kane are also in talks, while Dele Alli could also be offered a second new contract in six months.
