Tottenham Hotspur have fielded the youngest team in the Premier League this season by a considerable margin, according to research conducted by the Football Observatory.
The study, which analysed the average age per team of players fielded in domestic league matches in each of the big five European leagues this season, found that Tottenham's value of 25.5 years is the lowest in the top tier of English football.
Southampton are second in the Premier League at 26.1, while Sunderland (26.4), Liverpool (26.4) and Arsenal (26.6) round out the top five. Watford have fielded the oldest team in the Premier League so far this season with an average of 29.8 years.
Defending champions Leicester City lie 16th in the ranked list of Premier League clubs with an average age of 28.4 -- one place above Pep Guardiola's Manchester City (28.8). Bitter rivals Manchester United are sixth with an average age of 26.8, while Antonio Conte's Chelsea are joint-12th, with a value of 28.2 years.
Ligue 1 high-flyers Nice have fielded the youngest team in any of Europe's big five leagues at 23.3 years. In contrast, the oldest team so far this season belongs to Chievo in Serie A (31.4 years).
Italy's top flight also boasts the oldest team qualified for this season's Champions League in Juventus (29.7 years). Bayer Leverkusen are the youngest (24.5 years), closely followed by Monaco (24.9 years) and Lyon (25.2 years).
