Tottenham train on Wembley pitch ahead of Champions League campaign

Tottenham Hotspur's players trained at Wembley on Wednesday as the club prepare to play Champions League football at the national stadium.

Spurs announced a deal in May with the Football Association (FA) to stage their European matches at Wembley this season after 4,000 seats were removed from White Hart Lane over the summer as part of the construction of their new stadium, adjacent to their current home.

The building work on the North East corner of White Hart Lane and elsewhere in and around the stadium over the course of the season will leave it with just 32,000 seats and in breach of UEFA regulations.

The pitch at Wembley is significantly bigger than at White Hart Lane and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has described the Gunners' two seasons of Champions League football at Wembley from 1998 to 2000 as "a nightmare."

Spurs will be allowed to use Wembley's full 90,000-capacity for their Champions League home group games and they have already sold a significant number of tickets thanks to the successful "multi-game" scheme, allowing supporters to buy tickets for all three matches for between £70 and £150.

The club will play all its home matches at Wembley in the 2017-18 season, the majority with a reduced capacity, and hope to move into their new 61,000-seater home for the start of the 2018-19 campaign.

FA sources have previously told ESPN FC that the governing body will be flexible in allowing Spurs to train at Wembley this season.
