Wimmer helped the club finish third in the table under head coach Mauricio Pochettino, securing Champions League football for 2016-17.
Wimmer told Spurs TV: "I'm very delighted of course to sign the contract and stay with the club for five more years. It's a big pleasure for me and I'm very happy to stay with this club."
Pochettino added: "It's important that he's very young and his first season with us was good. All of the squad needs to be ready to take their opportunity and this is what he showed.
"He competed well and I think it was great for him."
