Tottenham targeting Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi, Pochettino says

Tottenham have targeted Marseille's Michy Batshuayi as they look to reruit another striker this summer, manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed.

Batshuayi, 22, has scored 15 goals in Ligue 1 this season for Marseille, and Pochettino identified the Belgium international as one of a number of options to play alongside Harry Kane.

"We are looking for a striker this summer," Pochettino told French radio station RMC. "Batshuayi is a young player who has a lot of talent. He is logically followed by many clubs.

"We have information about him, he has good potential. Then we will see, we also have other players in our sights."

Tottenham only have one French player in their squad, goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, but Pochettino said Ligue 1 is "a good source for major players," with Spurs also tracking Lyon defender Samuel Umtiti.

"Umtiti is one of the players that our recruitment department is following. He has interesting potential," the manager said.

Pochettino also said he is eager to retain Lloris' sevices next year.

"Lloris is, for me, one of the best three best goalkeepers in the world," said Pochettino. "We have a great relationship, he's a top player. I hope his future is at Tottenham."

Monday night's 1-1 draw at home to West Brom saw Tottenham's Premier League title slip away, bid with his side seven points back of Leicester City with three games remaining, Pochettino wasn't quite ready to give up the fight.

"We wanted to fight for the title but, seven points, three games ... it's very complicated, but I am happy with the season." he said.

"Clearly Leicester deserve to be in first place. It draws attention from the outside to see a team like Leicester in first. We will do everything to return but it's clear that it's very difficult for us."
