Tottenham's Harry Kane is his 'own man' despite Shearer comparisons

Harry Kane says he is flattered to be compared to Alan Shearer by Sir Alex Ferguson but insists he wants to be his "own man."

Kane is the Premier League's joint-top scorer with Jamie Vardy on 22 goals and recently joined an elite group of five Englishman to score 20 goals in back-to-back Premier League seasons.

The Spurs forward has scored 46 league goals since making his full debut in April 2014 and has previously said he is targeting Shearer's all-time Premier League record of 260 goals.

Shearer has revealed that ex-Manchester United boss Ferguson told him Kane "reminds me very much of you," a comparison Kane describes as "amazing."

"If I score as many goals as [Shearer] did, I will be happy. But I don't want to be compared to just one player -- I want to be my own man with my own attributes," Kane said in The Sun.

"I do feel I am getting better. I am not one who thinks, 'I have scored 20 goals twice in two seasons. That's enough.'

"I want to be better next season. I want to score more goals and improve as a player. There is a lot of hard work ahead from now until the end of my career to keep improving."

Kane is thought to be a shoo-in for England's Euro 2016 squad after bagging his fourth international goal in last month's spectacular 3-2 friendly win over world champions Germany.

The 22-year-old is neck-and-neck with compatriot Vardy in the race for Premier League Golden Boot -- with Sergio Aguero just one goal behind on 21 -- and the Spurs forward says he would also love to be top scorer at this summer's European Championship, just as Shearer was in Euro '96.

"That is definitely something I want to do. It is not something I think too much about. But I am confident in my ability and feel I can score against anyone.

"Scoring against Germany gave me even more confidence. Hopefully, I can win the Premier League Golden Boot first."

Kane also revealed that the togetherness in Spurs' squad is a key factor in their surprise title challenge this term.

"We have formed this bond together which we have not had in any other team. We get on well on the pitch but off the pitch we are very close whether it is going out for a meal or playing PlayStation. We do a lot of team bonding. It is a long season and you need the whole squad to be together," he said.
